    we couldn't afford pnut butter. I'm one of 11. Yes. I have 5 brothers and 5 sisters. My dad worked his ass off my mom stayed home to care for us younger ones.

    Ate a lot of oatmeal for breakfast. With half a tablet of Saccharin (Nasty stuff). Fortunately, there was a day old bread store that my folks would visit once or twice a month, Freezer was mostly bread and milk.

    ‌ We always had tea bags and sugar in the house for some reason. I never ate breakfast, ate lunch at work, and dinner was usually chicken or meat. We always had salad with dinner.

    And a "Farmer's Market" (more of a restaurant supply" where one could buy 100# bags of beans and rice. (Stored in metal garbage cans in the back yard.)

    W‌ell, ya did what you had too. And my Grandmother wanted to show us some of the things they did to get through the depression. Had us out one day picking Lamb's Quarter for supper. Grandpa about blew a gasket at dinner that night about having it on the table.

    Grandma had us out in the yard picking smaller dandelion leaves for dinner. Southerners like their greens. She grew mustard greens in the garden. I hate mustard greens. Loved the corn bread.

    Dad enlisted USAF. Back then pay was low and they said '' if the government wanted the GI to have a family, they would have issued one.'' Ate lots of homemade biscuits, made with lard and milk gravy made with bacon grease. Good stuff. Yes, and 'light bread' for all the above.
