Dear Mr. President,
I sit here and my heart is breaking as I watch history being made. I can't even begin to imagine what it is like to be making history.
It also breaks my heart that I forgot one of my mother's first principles, namely, don't bother with middle men, go straight to the top. Perhaps if I had followed that intonation, or tried harder.... though even now, I have only vague signals that I am actually participating in the fight (confermatiopnal bias and hubrus on my part?). Well, we can't let ourselves get bogged down with might have beens and maybe's.
It's getting to be time.
First, let's get a couple of things off of the desk.
You are most likely the first President thrown into the biggest fight as Commander in Chief without the benefit of prior military experance. Kind of like having to attend War Collage in the middle of the fight. That being said, grab up one of your Generals and ask him about Capt. William Fetterman. (Or Wiki it)
Than, running across the bottom of the screen is a report that there is a shortage of carbon dioxide needed for among other things food production due to a 30% reduction in the production of ethanol (gasahol for transportation?). At the same time, Whiskey distillers are converting over to produce ethanol for hand sanatizer. It's going to get a bit scattered here but bear with me. The other major componant of hand sanatizer is glycerin. Now, both my grandmother and mother kept a coffee can near the stove to collect cooking grease. This stemmed from the public "Grease Drives" of World War's 1 and 2 for the extraction of glycerin for the production of munitions. By the time I came along, the grease was being donated to the Little Sisters something or other for the production of soap. Everything had value, waste nothing. Skipping forward, grease is being collected from restraunts by the greenies for the production of Bio-Diesel.
Glycerin is now the by product. Except, there are no longer restraunts. Time to bring back the grease drives? Puts Big Ethanol back to work, puts Bio-Diesel back to work, packaging will have to be worked out but perhaps the Hand Sanitizer companys have surplus capacity, gives the average person a way to join the fight and puts the Whiskey Distillers back to making whiskey, after all, how long can that situation go on before the Irish revolt and they are a fierce people who, but for God's creation of whiskey would probably rule the world. (Insert smile here.) Putting it together is a task for your War Production Board, they did it in WWII.
Also, running across the bottom of the screen was a blurb wherein the WHO was saying that there is no evidence that with antibodies to Covid-19 were actually protected from reinfection. To my mind, this would indicate a complete lack of understanding about how the secondary immune system works. Perhaps you should direct them to the following:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immune_response
Draw their attention specifically to the part about the adaptive immune system. Heck, read it yourself, it's a decent primer.
Taking a quick break, I just finished watching your briefing (Sunday evening). Good job but I have one comment. I for one believe strongly that the press should be a watchdog over government, watching for malfeasance, bearing down if like a pit bull if they find genuine wrongdoing. Many of those I see in front of you are no more than yapping lap dogs. I'll have to think about it.
It's Monday morning. Felt so good about the way things are coming together that my nap turned into a full night of blessed sleep. Thank you. Be with you after my coffee and chemo breakfast.
Ok, in my last missive we addressed the Bread. Now let's look at the Circus.
We're going to make a minor change to the plan as previously outlined and pull another page from the past, namely the war bond drives of World War 2.
We're going to do Plasma drives.
With that, we introduce the Plasma Cavalry. We are going to adopt the Cav model because of Cav's traditional mission. Scouting (antibody testing), and to exploit breakthroughs, charging behind enemy lines and disrupting the enemy's supply train (Prophalatic innoculation). They also have great covers (hats).
TOE
The Plasma Cav will draw on CV-19 survivors from all branches of the military who meet the donation criteria as established by the FDA, Since you have set a date of 1 May, that is who we are looking for, anyone who will be ripe for donation by 1 May. Initial units will be created from this pool with new units to be created as donors become available.
The Plasma Cav will be organized roughly along Cav lines. Troops of 60 donors, three troops organized into Squadrons of 180 donors, we'll skip the battalion and go straight to the Regiments consisting of three Squadrons ( 9 Troops, 540 donors). As donors become avaiable, Regiments can be combined into Brigades consisting of 2 or 3 regiments (1080 or 1620) as the largest operational units with the creation of Divisions consisting of 2 to 4 Brigades as necessary for administrative purposes. This will provide the flexability to respond to emerging hotspots as dictated by population size. City of 100,000 would be a squadron, NYC area might be several Brigades.
Uniform will consist of PT gear, Black combat boots (or Jump boots if the blacks are no longer available) with toe taps and heel plates. BDU pants, T-shirts, different color for each troop within the squadron (Red, White, Blue) with Squadron Art, Troop identifier and catchy name (A-troop thru J troop, First Plasma Cav Regiment) Kerchief and of course those flashy covers. Note, plumes would probably be a bit over the top.
Some suggested names (A-troop, First Plasma Cav, Secret Santas, B-troop, First Plasma Cav, Birx's Brusiers, D-troop, First Plasma Cav, an all female troop and thus Dolly's Dolls, F-troop, First Plasma Cav, Fuchies Fighters, G-troop, First Plasma Cav, Granger's Ghosts, H-troop, First Plasma Cav, REDACTED, etc)
Thus, we would have a red t-shirt emblazened with A-troop, First Plasma Cav. Secret Santas (a nod to my Plasma days when I would slip in with a big bag of candy bars, apples and oranges for the Plasma staff around Christmas) and the Squadron art consisiting of a half dozen donuts surrounding a cup of coffee (also a nod to my Plasma and Infusion days, "Any thing we can get you", "A cup of coffee and a half dozen donuts would be nice").
Each unit will also need a yell or "hump-it" (Ask your general's to find you an Aggie, maybe to hold the football, it will save me a lot of explaination if you can just turn to him and ask what I'm talking about). Examples would be First Squadron, First Plasma Regiment. .... "First Plasma Squadron, First to the Fight, The Best Damn outfit anywhere" or F-troop, Second Plasma Squadron, First Plasma Regiment...."Fuchie's Fighters, Show us the numbers, the best damn outfit anywhere", or H-troop, Third Plasma Squadron, First Plasma Regiment....REDACTED, the best damn outfit anywhere", Possiblely J-troop, Third Plasma Squadron, First Plasma Regiment, the Johnny Jerry Joneses in recognition of his war service and we would have "The Johnny Jerry Joneses, Como's Nine Tenth's Man, The best damn outfit anywhere" and of course D-troop, Second Plasma Squadron, First Plasma Regiment,....Dolly's Dolls, We will always love you, the best damn outfit anywhere", but were getting a bit carried away here, having too much fun.
..........
The initial deployment and initial mission will be to secure, as much as possible the rear areas as discussed previously. Secondary missions will be to conduct antibody testing, identification and recruitment of donors, and participitate in Healthcare prophylaxis/antibody depletion trials.
Suggestions for three sites would be of course, somewhere in upstate New York, REDACTED as Central North, and Nashville, TN as Central South (Setting up the world's biggest Press Prank , get those yapping lap dogs chasing their tails)
Optimistically, not knowing the numbers currently available, I would imagine we'd be hard pressed to assemble 6 troops by Roll out so we might have to stagger it a bit.
The initial three squadrons will be participating in the antibody depletion trials so each troop will need an attached medical unit for the duration of trials with the equipment necessary to conduct ELISA antibody titration. Since the initial antibody on a stick tests are likely to be qualatative only, they can also perform ELISA titrations on potential plasma donors until a single cell ELISA on a stick go/no go gage is available (Better get industry working on that one, roll out is 9 days)
Guess we'd better discuss roll out. The picture in my mind is that the troopies are slipped into the selected cities and billited at a hotel near the Plasma center (an example would be the Raddison in REDACTED). At 0900 29 April, (hey, you set the 1 May deadline and we want to come in a little under) without prior announcement, the troopies assemble in their PT uniforms and parade down the street to the plasma center where they will stop and execute their unit humpit. Than, 1/3 of the troopies will donate plasma while the remainder parade to the nearest hospital/hospital's, stop in front of the entrance, establish contact with the hospital adminastration to make arrangements for testing the healthcare workers and than parade back to the hotel, picking up the donors along the way. (29 April is also ideal because that is my next appointment at oncology and I can watch the show, maybe have A-troop execute their humpit on REDACTED outside the REDACTED Oncology annex before heading over to the main hospital) Same thing the next day, except they will start testing (and perhaps immunizing) the healthcare workers, Healthcare workers testing Positive for antibodies given a button emblazened COVID COMMANDOS, no ppe required. HC workers immunized being given a button emblazened Plasma Protected. They'll still need PPE because the temporary protection will only last until the antibodies are used up, faster for those constantly exposed, a bit slower for those rarely exposed. That will be one of the things we will want included in the prophylactic trial protocall.
After roll out and testing of healthcare workers, testing (and possible immunization) of Grocery workers, hotel workers and restraunt workers can commence, As civilians are cleared for and volunteer for donation, give them a T-shirt emblazened with Xth "State Name" Volunteer Plasma Corps (Where X equals the state's entry into the Union) and the States outline. They're not really volunteers in the strictest sense because they will be paid for their donations, one of the beauties of Commercial Plasma.
Any how, this is getting to be a bit long and I'm going to have to cut it back up for the WH e-mail to handle.
The troopies will need to be assembled, tested and screened for donation and kitted out and we only have 7 or so days to do it. Troopies can be screened at their nearest CSL plasma center and enrolled in their database but you had better put CSL on alert.
Perhaps you could announce the number of "recovered" military (Meaning recovered and ripe for donation" ) Covid cases in one of your next breifings so I will have a better idea of what we're looking at. If possible, it would be best to concentrate the First Squadron in Duluth for trials nominally under the auspices of the REDACTED and due to the potential dearth of donors we may see due to Mayo scarfing them up. Also, on the REDACTED Healthcare System, with a sole exception, rests the blame for me being here to torment you and I think highly of them.
I'm going to get this off to you as in and than go back and see if I have missed anything.
Praying for you in the Nations time of need.
REDACTED.

As of Jan. 26, at least five people in the U.S. were confirmed with having the

Over 2,800 confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV have been reported worldwide, with
most of those patients in China. All 80 of the people who have died were in
China, including a doctor who treated patients at a hospital in Wuhan.
"Given the rate at which public health officials are capable of gaining insight
into the severity of such an outbreak, can you offer guidance as to when and
how the federal government would decide to implement travel restrictions in
the event that an outbreak like this one merited them?" Hawley asked in a Jan.
24 letter to the secretaries of Health and Human Services, Homeland Security,
4
State and Transportation.
Hawley also raised the issue of travel restrictions with top U.S. public health
officials during a Jan. 24 briefing for senators on Capitol Hill, Anthony Fauci,
director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, confirmed.
Fauci said both he and Robert Redfield, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, told the senators that imposing travel restrictions was
"not a good idea at this time."
"That would create a lot of disruption economically and otherwise and it
wouldn't necessarily have a positive effect," Fauci told S&P Global Market
Intelligence.
Exactly how many infected people did Fauci want introduced into a
the United States? 100? 1,000? How many weeks cut off of the
response time?

Fauci: No ‘immediate’ need for domestic travel ban

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, said
he doesn’t see the need “in the immediate future” for the US to implement
travel restrictions domestically because of the outbreak.
“I mean, they’ve been discussed, but not seriously discussed,” Fauci said on
ABC’s “This Week” Sunday. “I don’t see that right now or in the immediate
future. But remember, we are very open-minded about whatever it takes to
preserve the health of the American public.”
President Trump raised the idea of limiting travel in the US during a White
House news conference Saturday.
“If you don’t have to travel, I wouldn’t do it. We want this thing to end. We
don’t want a lot of people getting infected,” he said.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said visitors from states with outbreaks are traveling
to other areas of the country and infecting people.
“We’re seeing cases where people clearly contracted it somewhere else and
brought it here,” DeSantis said on Saturday.
Florida has 113 coronavirus cases and four deaths.
The Trump administration has instituted travel bans for China, South Korea,
Iran, Europe and the United Kingdom and Ireland as global cases of coronavirus
have surpassed 162,000 and the death toll is at 6,069.
American citizens returning home from overseas have been met with long lines
for screening at airports across the country.
Fauci, who heads up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases,
said the government doesn’t like to see such large crowds because of the ease
of spreading the virus.
6
“Obviously whenever you have crowds, that’s the thing we’ve been talking
about that we really want to implement is to have that kind of social
separation, that is countermanding that and hopefully people understand that
you don’t have to rush back,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”
But he said he understands that when people are confronted by a travel ban,
“they immediately want to … get home.”
Did Fauci want to be fighting COVID everywhere at the same
time without trying to compartmentalize it? There would
have been few nurses in reserve to send the the hard hit
areas.

The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use

authorization on May 1 for the drug remdesivir in the
treatment of severely ill COVID-19 patients.
Remdesivir was once studied for Ebola, and has not been
approved by the FDA to treat anything.
The drugmaker Gilead has 1.5 million doses of remdesivir,
enough for about 140,000 patients. The United States has
more than 1.2 million COVID-19 cases, according to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
On Saturday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services announced in a statement that six states hard hit by
the coronavirus would be getting quantities of the remdesivir
donated by Gilead: New Jersey (110 cases), Connecticut (30
cases), Illinois (140 cases), Iowa (10 cases), Maryland (30
cases), and Michigan (40 cases). Each case contains 40 vials of
the donated drug.
Gilead, in a statement on its website, says that it is talking to
drugmakers around the world to look into making more
supplies of remdesivir.
The HHS statement said seven states, including New Jersey
(94 cases), had gotten an initial allocation earlier this week:
New York (565 cases), Indiana (38), Massachusetts (117),
Rhode Island (30), Tennessee (7) and Virginia (33).
