Nancy Pelosi is finally retiring. I am happy to see her go.
She announced last November she will not run again after nearly 40 years representing San Francisco.
She was the first woman Speaker of the House. She ran the House twice, from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.
She was also a leftist whose goal was to spread San Francisco values to the rest of the country.
That said, she was a fairly effective Speaker and a partisan. She held her caucus together and got stuff done.
She got a lot of things passed. None of which we like. Obamacare. The green spending bills. The impeachments. She delivered for her side every time she had the gavel.
Keep in mind when I say she was good, I mean she got her priorities through.
She told the country they had to pass Obamacare "so that you can find out what is in it."
She helped push through trillion-dollar spending bills, including the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
She raised more than a billion dollars for Democrats while her own city slid. She knew how to count votes and she knew how to whip them.
Those priorities helped turn San Francisco into the hell hole it is today.
After four decades of Pelosi power, the 2026 count still found 7,973 homeless people in her city.
San Francisco now spends more than $700 million a year on homelessness and still cannot keep the sidewalks clear.
Walgreens locked the shelves. Tourists stopped coming. Fentanyl turned whole blocks into open-air markets.
She is responsible for many of the problems we face today.
The open-air drug markets, the smash-and-grab crime, the idea that borders and laws are optional. That is the San Francisco model she spent a career exporting.
I am glad she is gone, and she was good at what she did. That is the problem.
Are you glad Nancy Pelosi is finally leaving Congress?
