Your tax dollars can buy a strawberry cream cheese pie from Popeyes through SNAP. How does that Make America Healthy Again? Right now, a federal loophole allows SNAP benefits to be spent at participating restaurants, including fast-food chains. More than $524 million in SNAP benefits went to restaurants through this loophole in just two years. That makes no sense. SNAP was created to help struggling Americans put nutritious food on the table. Taxpayers should not be subsidizing fast food while President Trump is working to get junk food out of SNAP and Make America Healthy Again. That’s why I introduced the Ending Restaurant Purchases with SNAP Act. My bill closes the fast-food loophole and refocuses SNAP on what it was created to do: help struggling Americans afford nutritious food. It’s time to end this ridiculous loophole.
