SCOTUS got birthright citizenship WRONG today. The 14th Amendment was never meant to reward illegal border crossings or “birth tourism” so anyone can secure U.S. citizenship for their child by simply giving birth on American soil. Congress must act to fix this. The risks are too high: unchecked incentives for mass illegal immigration, chain migration, and — in an era of global terrorism and deep anti-American sentiment — the real danger that some of these children will be raised to hate the country that granted them citizenship by accident of location. SCOTUS just handed more power to open-border policies and weakened America’s ability to control who joins our nation. Time for Congress to clarify the law and put citizens first.
