Separation of Church and State Its Original Intent Two Jurisdictions Under God 2 Chronicles 26 and the account of King Uzziah. Uzziah was a strong civil ruler. He honored God, strengthened the nation, and brought prosperity. But when he entered the temple to burn incense, he crossed a line God had drawn. The priests resisted him because the king was trying to take on a priestly role. The lesson was clear: civil authority and spiritual authority were not to be merged into one office. The State had its jurisdiction. The priesthood had its jurisdiction. God honored both, but He did not make them the same. REMEMBER. Good government still has limits. Independence. Freedom. Liberty.
