Held Without Words
She rests her cheek
where the wolf is calm.
Neither keeps watch.
Both trust the dark.
Endurance is learned
by staying close
through long nights
that do not explain themselves.
Compassion is breath
shared quietly,
without promise,
without demand.
Protection is warmth—
fur against skin,
heartbeat answering heartbeat.
The ancestors draw near
When gentleness is chosen.
They teach this lesson
without speech:
what you hold with care
will carry you
through what comes.
Neither the Artist or Author signed, I wish they would. They are Native American.
