Wait… 18,000 soldiers became the Statue of Liberty?! 🗽
Between 1915 and 1921, photographer Arthur Mole and his assistant John Thomas created jaw-dropping “living photographs” using THOUSANDS of U.S. servicemen as human pixels. 🤯📸
How did they do it? Imagine standing on an 80-foot tower, shouting through a megaphone, and directing 18,000 people into the perfect shape of Lady Liberty… all without drones, Photoshop, or losing your voice. 🗣️✨
The result? Mind-blowing images of the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, even President Woodrow Wilson, all made of real people.
But here’s the twist: The formations only looked right from one specific camera angle. If you stood in the wrong spot, it was just… chaos. 😂 It doesn’t look like there are 18,000 people in the photo, but there are actually 12,000 in the torch alone, which was half a mile away from the camera!
