    Twice I borrowed 25 grand to go to college; once in the 1980's & again in the 1990's. Both times it took me 10 years to pay back the loan, at ~$250 per month. When corrected for inflation, my 1980's loan cost me 90 grand in today's money, & my 1990's loan cost me 60 grand in today's money.

    I joined the service to pay my way through college. Never had any student loans. Don't know how student loans would work.
