Who built the Gaza Metro?
AMERICAN TAX DOLLARS?
This is what helped Hamas go underground
The ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, which has been going on for over 18 months against Hamas and other Iranian proxies, continues to be waged largely underground. The main factor making it difficult for the IDF to win the campaign is the “Gaza Metro” – a vast and intricate network of terror tunnels, built over years with the help of generous foreign aid and indirect encouragement from the international community.
An investigation published in recent days in the international media suggests that countries, aid organizations, and even media outlets ignored the warning signs for a long time, and indirectly enabled Gaza to become an underground labyrinth of fighting.
In January 2025, Yoni Ben-Menachem, a researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Foreign and Security Affairs, said: "About 40% of the tunnel network still exists - these are hundreds of kilometers of terrorist infrastructure that the IDF was unaware of." According to him, "There are very long tunnels that have not yet been located, and some of them are used to hold hostages. To deal with them, a large-scale operation and a huge amount of explosives are required - which Israel does not currently have."
