This followed his guilty plea in August 2024, where he admitted to defrauding campaign donors, stealing identities, misusing campaign funds, and lying on financial disclosures. Prosecutors sought the 87-month sentence, citing his “unparalleled crimes” and lack of remorse, while Santos’ defense argued for a two-year minimum, claiming he had accepted responsibility. He was also ordered to pay nearly $580,000 in restitution and forfeiture.
