    My uncle was a Marine. He took part in the battle for Okinawa as part of an artillery company.

    ‌My great Uncle was in the battle for Okinawa as a Marine also! He was 15 when he enlisted. He was shot in the side 12 days later. My great grandma his mother called it the bloody battle of Okinawa!

    ‌Yes he lived to be 69 years old! Very gentle man who never talked about the war. He must have talked to his mom or I'd never have heard about it!

    ‌ My uncle enlisted right out of high school; Class of '44.. He turned 19 on February 23rd of 1945 on a transport ship, & was part of the 2nd wave to hit the beach on April 1st.
