Presently ~18% of homosexual men are infected with the Human Papiloma Virus, & ~12% of homosexual men have recurrent bouts of anal warts. In contrast, <4% of the general population is HPV(+), & <0.1% of everyone else has recurrent bouts of anal warts

As a consequence, the risk for gay men to develop cancer of the rectum is upwards of 50 times higher than it is for straight men. Likewise, the risk for gay men to develop cancer of the throat is roughly 4 times higher than it is in straight men.

To put it in numbers: The incidence of anal cancer in the general population is ~40 per 100,00. The incidence of throat cancer in the general population is ~7 per 100,000.
