BREAKING IN WASHINGTON - A BLOW TO THE DEMOCRATS: The Supreme Court has just now ruled 6-3 that South Carolina Republicans did not unlawfully consider race when redrawing a congressional district, which removed thousands of Black voters.
NOTE: The court found that civil rights groups failed to prove legislators prioritized race in creating the district, siding with Republicans who argued they aimed only to increase the district's Republican lean.
NOTE: As a result, Republican Rep. Nancy Mace's district will remain unchanged, a setback for Democrats seeking a more favorable map.
NOTE: Justice Samuel Alito noted there was "no direct evidence" of race being a key factor in the redistricting.
