I read somewhere that they were digging up microbes that are millions of years old and encased in the ice. Don't know how true it is or why they would do that.

HighHeels ‌ I would not doubt that as I understand they have found some interesting microbes down in the Amazon after clearing out forests for farmland so it's not inconceivable that microbes would be found in ice that's millions of years old.
