NYC Mayor, NYPD Police Chief and faith leaders announce the start of a new NYPD initiative to support and facilitate amplified sound for the Muslim call to prayer on Fridays and during sunset prayers during Ramadan. Nearly 22 years after 9/11 and the chanting “Allahu Akbar” will now sound loud in the city. I wonder if in the streets of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, we will ever hear the sound of church bells.
