There is no right to free speech in Canada, or for most of the rest of the world. Bill Whatcott, an acquaintance of mine, was arrested & charged with engaging in hate speech several year ago because he was handing out pamphlets with quotations from the Bible at a gay pride parade in Toronto.

He was found not guilty by a Toronto city court. But now he finds himself once again on trial over the exact same thing in Ontario provincial court, despite being found not guilty previously.

Not only can a defendant appeal their conviction, but up in Canada, a public prosecutor can also appeal your acquittal.
