As of Feb 13, 1996, Coors is owned by Anheuser/Busch inc YUENGLING beer is the oldest independently owned brewery in America. A/B owns about a dozen or so other brand names. One I remember is Michelob. Of course Bush, Miller and the others are pretty much the top ten most popular brands.

It is indeed a tangled mess. SABMiller was involved, SABMiller had to divest themselves of their joint venture holdings in MillerCoors in order to do their merger with A/B InBev. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MillerCoors

It was a heyday of Mergers and Acquistions driven by InBev https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AB_InBev . Coors has a couple of other holdings, it would be interesting to see what patents AB was given access to in 1996.

Strange, but four 20 or 30 years I've been saying a beer, is a beer, is a beer. They all taste same. And if you'll think back, there have been no hidden brand taste tests on just about anything.

The interplay between InBev and AB is an interesting read. Basically, the fall from quality American Brand to cheap forigen ownership. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anheuser-Busch#Prohibition_to_last_years_of_independence

I do remember the scandal that broke out when it was found out that a brewer was using rice instead of barley or wheat to reduce production costs.
