I was pre-med in college in the 1970's. We were told repeatedly, by representatives from various medical, dental, optometry, & podiatry schools that, if we were White we needed at least a 3.5 GPA to be considered for admission. But if we were a "minority applicant" a 2.5 GPA was sufficient.
