In another life, when I was a Cop, we got a call of a "vicious Pitbull" loose in a residential neighborhood.The complainant obviously had a beef with the dog's owner and was hoping we'd shoot him. The dog's name was Barney.When I arrived, "Barney" was in the front yard, supervising his Kingdom, and the driveway gate (with Barney's name on a sign) was wide open.We locked eyes and "The Joust" ensued!He charged... I took the crouched position... and as he ran past me, I tried to smack him on his ass. He won.Two or three more passes, and he was happy that SOMEBODY actually took the time to play with him.The Animal Control Officer showed up and was ready to "dart" Barney, but it was obvious this was a pooch who needed Belly Rubs over chemical injections.Every day, when I was on duty, I brought Barney (and some other Special Cases) Slim Jim's, butcher shop bones and treats, to keep them on my good side.Animals... especially Dogs... really ARE our best friends.When you treat animals well, they spread the word about you to the rest of the Animal Kingdom.
