Juneteenth is a celebration how truly great a country we are! #Juneteenth is not a black holiday it is an american 🇺🇸 holiday. Slavery is not just a stain seen in American History but one that still to this day stains World History! It always has been a global problem that America finally broke free from on January 1, 1863 by way of the Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Abraham Lincoln. #Juneteenth exists because Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army, a WHITE man, arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 and told the slaves they were finally free. The 13th Amendment which was passed by congress was not ratified be the states until December 6, 1865. To provide context, America was the first country to have a law signed within that banned the slave trade and was the FOURTH nation to ban slavery altogether! Over 💯 countries still have slavery, 6 of which have significantly high numbers: * India (18.4 million) * China (3.4 million) * Pakistan (2.1 million) * Bangladesh (1.5 million) * Uzbekistan (1.2 million) * North Korea (1.1 million) "Other countries with significantly high slave populations are Russia, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Egypt, Myanmar, Iran, Turkey, and Sudan."
