We are taught that most of this book is yet to be fulfilled, that there is a seven year tribulation period, and many other fallacies. To truly understand the Book of Revelation we must have a knowledge of history. History and Scripture prove that the vast majority of Revelation has already taken place. Too many people take literally what is actually symbolism in this book. One common teaching is that “Jesus could come at any moment”. That is clearly not what Scripture tells us. Acts 2:32-35 says: 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, wherefore we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear, 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Peter said that Christ will remain enthroned in the heavenly, “ruling in the midst of his enemies” until they are all defeated. Also, we see in Hebrews 10:12-13: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting [waiting] till his enemies be made his footstool. All of the enemies of Christ must fall before He can be released from Heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:24,25: Then cometh the end…when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign [from his heavenly throne; through his body], till he hath put all enemies under his feet. Who are Christ’s feet? The Church is the body of Christ. Christ is the head of His Body, the Church. The day will come when all enemies are put under our feet, and that is when Christ will return. How did these false teachings originate? In 1585 the Jesuit Priest Francisco Ribera worked to counter the Great Reformation movement by the maligning of prophetic truth. He published an Apocalyptic Commentary on Babylon and the Antichrist now referred to as the futuristic scheme. This was to counter what Protestants all knew at this time; That the Beast is not some man in the future, but a system, and the Papacy and Church of Rome is the Antichrist of Scripture.
