Between ~2 PM on May 31st & ~5 AM on June 1st in 1916, one of the largest naval battles in history took place, off the west coast of Denmark. ~100 German ships took on ~150 English ships.

By the time it was over ~10 German ships (60 thousand tons) & ~15 English ships (100 thousand tons) were at the bottom of the ocean. ~6 thousand German sailors, & ~9 thousand English sailors, lost their lives within those 15 hours. That comes to 1 ship & 1000 men per hour.
