Giuseppe Rapesta joined the police in 1951. After attending the Allievi School of Rome, he served at Rome Police HQ and then in the Rome Railway Police.
At night on May 6th, 1982, a group of Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari terrorists broke into his office at a railway station. They shot Agent Rapesta in the back of the head, stole his weapon, and fled into the night.
Forty years ago today, he died of his injuries - one of the many victims of the so-called 'Years of Lead'.
Today, the best known NAR member is the convict Roberto Fiore - leader of the #ForzaNuova party in Italy, Sugar daddy (in both senses, according to the rumors) to the British National Party, and most recently in trouble for organizing a noisy demonstration to keep the police busy... while his men broke into an opponent's office.
