    Never knew the law was changed but back in the day if you quit OR if you were fired you cannot collect unemployment. Only way used to be if you are laid off... correct me if I have this wrong.

    Here in TX, my friend was fired, she filed for unemployment, she was denied to her being "fired"...she filed an appeal, had to explain her side of the story. She was fortunate to have someone really listen to herside and was later approved.

    some laws differ state to state. I am most familiar with Michigan, tho I now live in Ohio. Alot of times, it depends on the reason for the separation. performance based, usually you will get it. The fight could be on for a reason of conduct or legality (for ie: theft, racism, fighting)

    However, if you are terminated for cause, you may not get unemployment for six weeks with out an appeal (PA)...

    I was terminated and got unemployment. It takes a while sometimes, but possible. I also brought forth lawsuit against same employer and won. So both are possible.
