41 years ago today, James Brady was the White House press secretary when an American Nazi Party member attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. The Nazi had apparently convinced himself that assassinating the President would impress an actress he was stalking. (The attempt did not impress the actress.)

President Reagan was injured, but recovered. James Brady was shot in the head and permanently disabled. Years later, in 2014, Brady would die from aftereffects of the injury.

It is easy for people to disagree or dislike police because they are there to keep civil order, so right away there is a line drawn because people assume the cops are there to take away their rights. Do police cover for each other, sure, but so do firemen, salesmen, doctors, nurses, office workers, factory workers, CEO's and worst of all are the politicians that cover for each other. The politicians are the worst. Monday morning quarterbacking by nonpolice is like sport, but the fact of the matter is, you weren't there & you don't know the entire situation that happened, especially when the media is involved. Every cop in my family has been attacked by a DV victim. My brother was attacked by a woman with a butcher knife in one hand & her husband's nose in the other. My fiance , RIP, was shot at by a pregnant mother of five on crack. At my department a black woman screamed racial profiling & insisted she was arrested "while black" no, she was arrested because she tried to steal a car. I could go on all day. Police are trained in firearms. Police are also trained to keep the public safe. So if you have a gun & you point at cops, you will get shot. No, they can't shoot in the hand, the arm or the leg, this isn't tv. Police are to neutralize the threat, center mass. Have you ever tried to shoot someone in the arm or leg when they are pointing a weapon at you? It doesn't matter your age. Lil Murder, Adam Toldedo, the 13yo gangbanger out at 2am shooting at cars, ran & pointed his gun at the cop, I saw the actual body cam video. Lastly, the 30ft rule, meaning a person with a knife within 30 feet of you will stab you before you can get your gun drawn. Jason VanDayke, shot McDonald because he advanced on all of them with the knife, he was shot 16 times because he was on PCP & not going down. It was cleared as a good shoot. He got tried years later because of BLM. VanDyke was the test case for the Floyd debacle. The media reports how poorly the victim was treated by police, yet, it never reports how many cops were shot at, attacked, hit, beat up, etc. So, that's my rant & I respectfully agree to disagree.
