Democrats hold a slim majority in the House, and Republicans are growing increasingly confident that they will win control of the chamber in November.
Michigan's 14-member congressional delegation is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, but the state is losing a House seat based on the 2020 census results. The state's redistricting commission approved new congressional maps for the state's 13 House districts last month. Lawrence's seat is likely to become highly competitive.

Democrats reeling year before midterm elections – here's how Republicans stay on top and win big in 2022
I said in March there was going to be a lot of buyer’s remorse when voters saw what Joe Biden and the Democrats were up to with total control of Washington. That was an understatement.

Republicans hold a comfortable lead in their efforts to retake control of Congress. According to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll, 48% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Republicans candidate, while 39% would vote for the Democrat in the 2022 midterms.
The 9-point edge Republicans hold in the latest poll is larger than what Democrats enjoyed at any period during the 2018 midterm cycle, largely due to greater GOP partisan intensity and a 17-point advantage among independents.
