I met one named Dallas several years back. Anyway, each year, these certifiable nut cases hitch up teams of dogs to their idiot rods and go pounding off through the snow in subfreezing temperatures on a 730 mile run to Nome, Alaska in a glorious celebration of Behring's BALTO my sweet 5 year old granddaughter screams. For purposes of this evolution I have adopted the nom de guerre XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX but you can call me Livid. I am a simple citizen and, by the grace of the Lord God Almighty, a Texan. ........ In late January, early February, I started paying attention to the news out of China concerning the outbreak of what became known as Covid-19. What struck my attention were a few items which might have gone unnoticed by others. New hospitals erected from scratch in 3 days. I'd like to see the chemistry behind that concrete. The casualty rates among healthcare. The fact that the military was going door to door collecting anybody that had the sniffles. I thought I had better take a look at the numbers. Crunching the curve of cumulative cases, I came up with a log base that hovered around 1.15. Projecting that out to 180 days (180 log[1.15] for those inclined) and ignoring population dynamics (infinate population) since it was just a first pass I came back with a bit over 8 trillion cases within 180 days. Problem is, the world doesn't have 8 trillion people but the first pass was still worth, to quote the Great Pooh Bear in difference to any tender ears which might be listening, an "Oh Bother". Referring you back to the casualty rates among healthcare from China I was especially concerned. I am not One of the Lamp but of One of the Lamp am I. Being the son of one who had sworn the Sacred Oath of the Lamp and the grandson of another. I grew up thinking that the Oath began with "First, don't let the doctor kill the patient". I'm thinking now it was a private joke but, having on the many occasions I have had to make inquiry of several of the pinned of late, I have never received any answer other than a smile. I also grew up reading about the Heros of Medicine. Jenner, Pasteur, Behring, Reed, Beaumont, Lister, and so many others. History will recall the Heros of the Pandemic of 2019-20. There may also be Zeros, even a few Geros. History will decide. That being said, I said to myself, "Self, how can you help those of the Lamp, the Angels who walk among us?" Myself said back "Think". ..... So, on behalf of the Angels I think, and share my thoughts. I shared my thoughts to those locally who I deemed would be vital to the fight. "Don't worry, wash your hands, cough into your sleeve". (Remember, these were the early days). I shared my thoughts with another, "Are we ready?"..."Go to the State Website", wash into your hands, cough into your sleeve". I shared my thoughts with my 2 doctor. He said "Sounds scientifically sound, wash your hands, cough into your sleeve" (I'm getting real close to slapping someone here".) I say to myself, "Self, you're not making much progress, think" Than I remember one of my dear, sweet, mother's maxims. "Don't waste your time with middle management, go straight to the top". Thus, began my real fight for the Angels. Contending for those of the Lamp and those of the Asklepian, making petitions to the President. Not pointing out the problem, rather, offering ideas for a solution. EXHIBIT 1 There are others, so many others. Actually, making something of a pest of myself. Love my nurses though. Interesting way to fight a war, the above is all I have ever heard back from the President or the White House. Casting my thoughts into the void, listening for echos and there have been some. As I referenced above, I have been contending before the President for convelescent plasma, first, on behalf of the afflicted and Healthcare, than for essential workers (those who keep our cities running), Agriculture (those who keep us fed) and Transportation (those who tie it all together). HEAT. Plasma antibodies both for therapy and prophylaxis, to aid in healing and to protect. At first, when I presented a plan, there were few donors but by 21 April, in my estimation, we were getting close to having a pool of potential donors large enough to make a difference. Among those identified as healthcare, we are currently looking at perhaps 500,000 who have contracted Covid-19. Than, call your roll. Find out who does not answer. Than, perhaps offer a little love to your President. He has fought a hard fight on your behalf and is taking a beating for it. There is more to do. On other things, agree with him or not, vote for him or not, love him as he loves you.
