Hope you'll pass it along as well: Ms Grey Owl posted an article about Newsome changing the regs in California regarding trucking to help “alleviate” some of the supply chain disruptions. Speaking as an EXPERIENCED Trucker (not a “CDL holder”) #1 Trucks are specific built to their purpose. Industry standards MINIMIZE how trucks are built for the highways, always cheapening DOWN each year. Which means trucks built to haul 80k lbs, are now “overweight” at 88k lbs, #2 A 21 yo kid, by and large simply doesn’t have the General driving experience to be expected to handle a tractor trailer like an experienced driver will. Lowering the age for a class A license to 18 is beyond foolish. The fact that insurance companies hate to insure anyone below age 25, proves my point. #3- The 3 week Whiz Kid truck driving classes ARE NOT, repeat ARE NOT designed to teach anyone how to drive a truck. They are a business designed to make a profit, by issuing Class A licenses to those who can pay them to do so. Teaching someone to drive is left to fleets such as Swift, Schneider, Crete, etc and those companies require 6 mo to a year of driving experience before a “driver” can become a “Trainer”. THINK ABOUT THAT !!! That’s right folks, you have inexperienced steering wheel holders, out there as the “Trainers”. What is the difference between a Shmuck who drives a truck, and a “Truck Driver” ??? 5 years on average. FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY- I want YOU to actively look up at every “driver” you can as a truck goes by. It will not take long for you to understand what I am trying to warn you about. At that point YOUR driving will change because you will understand YOUR safety and well being is at stake. Remember that the vast majority of car/truck wrecks are initiated by the cars themselves. It is the same Morons who can’t drive worth a shit in a car, which end up with a Class A and in a truck. This is not “opinion”, this is highly proven observations by a EXPERIENCED Haul Road Trucker from Alaska. Of the more than 1.5 million miles I have logged down here in the lower 48, half of those miles are Oversize/Heavy Haul miles. I don’t ASK you to pay attention when you are driving, I PLEAD with you to PAY ATTENTION while you are on the the road. Truckers don’t say “good bye” before we end a phone call, we say “Be safe out there”.
