Made it to St. Louis just in time for a rainy weekend, but that's okay, because I'm really here to cheer on the contenders at the 2021 U.S. Chess Championships (especially my teacher who is one of the favorites in the Women's). As I look over the state of the world this morning, I can't help thinking we could use a guy in Washington right now like this city's namesake. Louis was king of France in the mid-1200s, yet he is still remembered for approaching all his duties as a Christian first, earthly monarch second. He founded countless hospitals and created many programs to help the poor become skilled for better jobs. In fact, in order to better understand their needs and find more ways to help, he made sure to include impoverished individuals at his table every night for supper.
