Hey, Democrats.
I know a man who spent 13 years in the Navy before he got sick and was medically discharged. I know him well enough to say, though he would have followed orders from Kelly, he would have done so with PRIVATELY HELD disdain.
There is a deeply held norm in the armed forces that active duty and former military personnel, especially high-ranking ones, do not publicly undermine or show open contempt for the Commander-in-Chief. That tradition exists for good reasons:
* It protects the apolitical nature of the military
* It preserves civilian control of the armed forces
* It maintains unit cohesion across political lines
* It upholds the dignity of the office, regardless of who holds
Kelly has violated them all.
