The U.S. Army has deployed the 20-kilowatt Palletized High Energy Laser (P-HEL) overseas to combat enemy drones, marking the first operational use of a laser weapon for air defense outside of experimental testing. The P-HEL system, based on BlueHalo's LOCUST Laser Weapon System, was deployed in November 2022, with a second system arriving in early 2024.
