BREAKING: Brown University Shooter Benjamin Erickson Captured After Intense FBI Geolocation Manhunt
24-year-old Benjamin Erickson, a Wisconsin native and U.S. Army veteran, was taken into custody early Sunday morning following a deadly mass shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on December 13, 2025.
The attack occurred in the Barus & Holley engineering building during final exams, killing at least two people and injuring nine others. The shooter fired over 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun before fleeing the scene.
Thanks to swift action by the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team, Erickson’s cellphone data was used for precise geolocation tracking. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the breakthrough led authorities to a hotel in Coventry, RI—about 15 miles from campus—where Erickson was detained without incident.
Erickson, who served as an infantryman from 2021-2024 and recently transferred to Brown University, is being investigated for possible mental health issues and any direct motive. No charges have been formally announced yet, but the shelter-in-place has been lifted.
Excellent work by law enforcement ending this nightmare quickly. Prayers for the victims and the Brown community.
