Before I retired in 2024, I used to try to explain to my 20-something year old coworkers about how much freer we were, in so many stupid little ways, when I was in my 20's, 40+/- years ago.

I finished high school when I was 17. I drove to Houston and spent a few days at my grandmother's house. I found a job and I found an apartment (rent: $125/month including utilities) and I went to work supporting myself. That was 1973. It was a very different world.

lesscowbell Yes, it is a different world in many ways. For starters, you have to adjust the amount you paid in rent.
