Pledges exceed the mayor’s power and require state approval, funding, or legal changes he cannot unilaterally control. Mamdani’s most viral, voter-winning promises — free buses, rent freeze, $30 wage, universal childcare — are legally and financially impossible without state action. Mamdani knew this, but LIED and campaigned on them anyway. Mamdani offered hope through overpromise. As mayor, he’ll deliver some (groceries, housing push), but not the big-ticket items without a miracle in Albany.
