As the effort to prevent New York City from becoming Londonistan shifts focus to Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, two tarnished former Democrats who are less than ideal candidates. Yes, Curtis Sliwa is in the race, but as a perennial candidate—and a Republican at that—he wins the Miss Congeniality prize, and I believe everyone understands that. The question here is this: Between Adams and Cuomo, who honestly cares more for the citizens of New York City? Appreciate his actions of not, the moves Adams has made that caused so much agitation amongst the New York media (and let’s face it, it is the media that is his biggest detractor) are moves that went along with President Trump’s America First agenda, an agenda that was mandated by well over half the country. As a 20-year law enforcement officer rising to the rank of Captain, he ran on a law-and-order platform, which New Yorkers wanted. So, to suddenly believe that he wouldn’t cooperate with ICE and immigration law is to be wholly disingenuous. Cuomo, a disgraced former governor—and one whose uneducated COVID policies literally killed thousands of elderly people—appears to be a spotlight whore who just can’t leave the stage after his 15 minutes of fame. A Clinton-era Democrat, complete with all the baggage to prove it, his refusal to accept defeat at the hands of an Islamofascistic, Jew-hating socialist in Zohran Mamdani only to dilute the Independent vote to almost assure Mamdani’s victory, stands as his testimony that he doesn’t care about the well-being of New Yorkers. He, in fact, only cares about himself, confirming criticisms from even those in his inner circle. If New York City is to dodge the fatal bullet that would be a Mamdani mayoralship, Cuomo must drop out of the race and throw his full support behind Adams, going so far as to campaign with him and for him. Sliwa would do well to do the same thing.
