Learned to drive, & took my road test, in a Ford Galaxy 500.

JimJimmyJames Nice....

JimJimmyJames
GerryB52 My father junked the car the day after my road test. That was in July of 1974. The Galaxy was a 1965 model, if memory serves correct. We got it used in December of 1966. In those days, cars were good for only about 10 years, or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. The 1975 models wer... View More

Yeah I remember those long doors, Eventually they sagged and you had to lift them up to close the door! If you opened the door from the inside while driving you were screwed until you stopped!

JimJimmyJames
TexasJerryLee Do they even make 2 door cars any more?

GerryB52
JimJimmyJames . Yes, the small sport models.

GerryB52 Never owned a 2 door car myself. And I can't think of riding in one, where the front seat had to be folded down so you could get into the back seat, since I was in college. That was in 1975 to 1979. So we're talking 45 to 50 years ago.

So these cars were all 1971 to 1975 models.

I am thinking of 2 cars that were a few of many 2 door cars and truck I owned. 1st was a 1967 Chrysler Newport. Very long doors and I could sleep comfortably in the back seat and I was 6' 2" then. 2nd was a 1975 Trans Am.

JimJimmyJames
TexasJerryLee Oh yes, they certainly were wider than the cars we drive now for the most part. A lot heavier too. That's why they all had V8 engines. Lucky to get 10 mpg.

TexasJerryLee
JimJimmyJames I had a 2 door 1970 Dodge Charger 500 with a 383 that got 7 mpg! Fast car but a gas guzzler for sure!

GerryB52
TexasJerryLee The Chargers were bad ass.

GerryB52Once on on a 4 mile blacktop going home I pegged the speedometer at 140 plus! I was a brain dead 18 year old at the time and am fortunate I lived through the Charger.
