Senate Leadership Race- No More McConnells Cartoon published 11/11/2024 Recent Republican Congressional leaders have a tendency to be RINOs—Republicans In Name Only. Boehner, Paul Ryan, and especially Mitch McConnell come to mind. McConnell is 82 years-old and retiring. He had a series of embarrassing brain freezes that left many questioning his ability to conduct his responsibilities. Mitch has made it clear he’s no fan of Donald Trump and he did his best to thwart the 45 president. Now that Trump will be the 47 president, Mitch is rushing out a secret vote in the Senate to determine his successor, whom he hopes is someone such as John Cornyn, who has a reputation for working with Democrats on issues such as gun control. Cornyn is a classic RINO who may be pretending to support Trump now, but Mitch knows it won’t last. Cornyn can hold up legislation in Congress that Trump might support. Many conservative Senators prefer the recently reelected Rick Scott, who is aligned with Trump. McConnell epitomizes the reason why we need term limits. Most politicians never leave once they are in office—they fear losing their power more than death. Pelosi is another example of this. Trump will have one last term and he must make it count.
