Those who are in the military and those who are "1st Responders" are not always the ones just saving lives. This post is not to "boast" nor "exalt" myself... it's to bring awareness to saving lives. My cliche' that I like to use is - "Life is not about you, it's about what you can do for someone else." I have donated blood about 4 or 5 times, and donated plasma twice a week for about 2½, and when my Chinese female friend came down to see me in May of 2012 - right before my trip to Germany and Portugal... she mentioned she was in Scotland and then in Germany and went to a German doctor where he told her that her kidneys were failing. She did not ask for me to help her. I immediately offered to donate one of my kidneys to her in the conversation - if we were a match. I had to travel back and forth from Seattle to Vancouver, BC, Canada on the BoltBus ($1-$8 tickets!!!) and we found out that I was. After I returned from Europe, all the tests started (for about 4 months - August - November)... then, the donation on December 3, 2012 in Vancouver, BC.
People need to help others out by donating blood, plasma, an organ, bone marrow, tissue, cartilage, money, services, time, educational services, medical services, and give to others, because it's not about what it is we "receive" in this life. We need to remain humble and know that we are supposed to help - "strengthen" our "brethren" and uplift them. The payback is tremendous, because 'what you do privately - God will reward you publicly'... as it is written.
