What popular athletic brand is named for a type of antelope?
Reebok
ASICS
PUMA
Adidas
********
Answer: The British sneaker company was originally part of J.W. Foster & Sons, a business that dates back to 1895. In 1958, two of the founder's grandsons, Jeff and Joe Foster, formed a spinoff athletic shoe company. Their search for a name led them to thumb through a dictionary to find inspiration. The brothers decided that the rhebok, a speedy African antelope, was the perfect name for their company. So why is the company's name spelled "Reebok" and not "Rhebok"? The dictionary they had was a South African edition, so they inadvertently used the Afrikaans spelling rather than the English spelling.
