********
Answer: The Steagles were the team created by the temporary merger of Pennsylvania's two National Football League teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles, during the 1943 season. "It was done out of necessity," Steelers owner Art Rooney Sr. said in a 1974 interview. "The war was going on and most of the players were in the service. A lot of the coaches, too. We didn't have the manpower to field a team and neither did the Eagles but we thought we could make it work if we pooled our resources." The "Steagles" went 5-4-1 that season.
