********
Answer: The Darth Vader Grotesque is a limestone grotesque located on the north side of the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It is one of many grotesques that are part of the National Cathedral's rain control system. The grotesques deflect rainwater by bouncing it off the tops of their heads and away from the stone walls. During the construction of the northwest tower in the 1980s, 13-year-old Christopher Rader won a National Geographic World contest with his drawing of Darth Vader. The head was subsequently sculpted by Jay Hall Carpenter and carved by Patrick J. Plunkett.
