When the new CEO entered his office for the first time he decided how to decorate his new throne room. Looking for a pad he opened his top drawer and saw 3 envelopes. Each had instructions on the front:#1 simply said TO THE NEW CEO - ONLY OPEN MEupon opening the note it was a welcome letter from the previous CEO. It also included some tips and wisdom to ease his transition into the company and key employees. It also told him not to open the other 2 envelopes at this time. He was told there would come a time of a crisis that might mean his termination, at that time he should open envelope #2.- - - - - - - -A few years pass and as predicted, there is a crisis and his competence is being questioned. With the stockholders meeting 8 weeks away, he knew his position would come under fire. As he started to stress over the situation he remembered the note in the first envelope. The note in the second envelope outlined how he should reorganize some departments, then let go some 5 or 6 percent of the lowest performing employees. Then let the stockholders know your plan is to tighten the belt through streamlining production through reorganizing departments, refining communication between the new departments, and by reducing the workforce by removing the slackers due to the reorganization. The last item in the note was wishing him luck, and a warning that although he saved his job, there would come another crisis. At that time refer to envelope #3.- - - - - - - -For several years profits rose, morale rose, everyone was happy. Of course there came another crisis. Remembering the good advice from envelope #2, he went straight for envelope #3. The note read, So it happened, another crisis right?
