Forty years and two days ago, Erminio Carloni was murdered by would-be bank robbers.
The robbers were members of a neo-Fascist terrorist group called the Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari. These days, the best known NAR alumnus is a man named Roberto Fiore - who spent several years hiding out in the UK to avoid prison time after being convicted of NAR membership. On his return to Italy Fiore became the leader of a neo-Fascist political party - not surprising in and of itself; wealthy criminals starting a vanity party that consists of themselves, ten boneheads, and two informants is hardly unusual. What IS unusual is that he managed to get himself elected to the European Parliament briefly.
