Former police officer Derrick Brun was working as a guard at the Red Lake Senior High School and training to be an EMT.
Seventeen years ago yesterday, a neo-Nazi pupil planning a mass shooting attacked the school, murdering Brun and several others. The Nazi had previously murdered his own grandfather, Ojibwe Tribal Police sergeant Daryl Lussier, in his sleep.
