Purim (in Hebrew means 'casting lots') celebrates the rescue of the Jews from Haman's plan to totally destroy them. It shows us also how YAHWEH works behind the scenes in human history to accomplish His will. Consider: If Haman had been successful would there have been a Savior born centuries later? One marvels at God’s Providence and timing. It just so happened that Queen Vashti said NO – opening the throne to Esther. Mordecai just so happened to hear the plot against the king. The king just so happened to have a sleepless night when Mordecai’s events are read to him. Haman just so happens to be in the palace to plot Mordecai’s murder, when he is told to honor Mordecai. Esther 6:13 “And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.” Esther 6:13 expresses a central truth of the book: That those who oppose Israel will not succeed. Esther 4:14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
