    They are mammals and eat sea grass which the boats have wiped out. We are big kayaking advocates for that reason.

    Ah. so they feed on the surface which exposes them to cold. I was in FL in the 1980's and remember seeing manatees with nasty wounds on their backs and locals told me the wounds were from boat propellers: creeped me out

    Nope, they feed on the bottom sea grass naturally. It’s gone and most are dying of hunger. They are mammals so they need the water to stay around 72 or above and it’s why they swarm to the natural Springs for winter, but we had a 5 hour hard freeze. That killed some too.
