You made me stop and think twice about this, Mr. Hitchins, and I do declare you are indeed right! If we don't work toward the happy ending, then why would we bother making the story? I thought about taking this post down, but decided to leave it because of your brilliant catch.

Did someone say Story? Boy, Do I have a Story for You...Dec. 20 – It is Christmas Time…Time for a Story. The Year was 1976…and Jack was just beginning his new Memorial Tournament in Dublin, OH. Boy, Do I have a Story for You...Dec. 20 – It is Christmas Time…Time for a Story. The Year was 1976…and Jack was just beginning his new Memorial Tournament in Dublin, OH. Back in those days…one sponsored “Pro-Am” events to bring the crowds to this new event. The “Pro-AM” would involve 8 teams…2 Pro Golfers, a Celebrity and some VIP…4 teams would tee off at the 1st tee…and the other 4 teams would tee off at the 10th tee…at about 8:00am…they would come in for lunch…and tee off at about 1pm. In 1983…Jack had invited “James Bond”…Sean Connery (who was inducted as an Honoree that afternoon)…and 7 other Celebrities…but I do not remember them, except for one…our main character. And, “Yes”, we was a character. No one ever forgets him…once they seen him. Well, getting back to our Story…the year is now 1983…and I am a young man…and I had taken the day off to go to Jack’s Pro-Am…I paid my admission of $15 and I was in, but they had already teed off. So, I checked out the driving range…and then, headed to the 9th green to watch the players come in…before going to lunch. After lunch…I liked to go to the putting area…over the years…I have seen all the Pros at Jack’s the putting green. There I was…at the putting green…and two men came out with a table and place it beside me…where I was standing…I said to myself…this is going to be good…do not move…a few minutes later…2 men came out and placed a Big Cake on the table…the Cake said, Happy 80th Birthday…Now, Who has a Birthday on May 29, 1983??? Yes, the Cake said, Happy 80th Birthday Bob Hope…about 10 minutes later…Out comes…Jack, Bob, Arnold, Gary, Lee, James Bond, Governor Rhodes…and for the next 15 or 20 minutes…Bob and the whole group tells stories and jokes (Bob, “Golf is my real profession…Show business pays my Greens fees”.)…and, Just like…the last Story…It was a “Wonderful Life” for all…except this time it was Bob Hope…it was just like…all of those “Oversea Shows for the Troops”…and Everyone had a “Wonderful Time” that Day. But the Story…does not end there…in 1998…I was doing a hazardous material inspection at a meat plant that stored anhydrous ammonia…the plant manager (Mr. Bishop) and I went around and did the inspection…then, he took me upstairs to the owner’s office…to go over the inspection and to have him sign off…the plant manager opened the door…and there sitting in the seat was Bob Hope…What?...it was Bob Hope’s Nephew, Leslie Hope. I told him about my golfing experience…and he reached into his desk drawer and pulled out a “Silver Money Clip”…that looked just like Bob Hope…the large jaw, long nose, jetted brow. Leslie told me that his Uncle like to carry his money in a “Money Clip”…and that he had them made to resemble him. Leslie gave me that money clip…as a remembrance to his Uncle. I went home…and my father-in-law was living with us…and Pappy was in WWII, and he loved Bob…so, I gave Pappy the money clip. The next year…Pappy left us…and I looked in his dresser for the money clip, but it was nowhere to be found…but, now that I think about it…I will bet you it was in his pocket…when he died. Well…Nothing ventured…Nothing gained. So, go out…you never know…what could happen to you. Have a Blessed…Christmas. And, Remember…Why was Jesus was born in a Stable…because He was the “Lamb of God”…who takes away the sins of the World. Where else…would a “Lamb” be born, but in a Stable. Amen. And, Finally…Bob, Please sing…One more time…”Thanks for the Memories”. One more thing…I learned, while searching Bob…we, both, got married in the same town…Erie, PA…it’s a small, small world. Thank you, God…For the Memories.
