Massive Earthquake to Rock Japan Within 30 Years (reports)A mega quake has been projected to hit Japan at any point within the next three decades. In the worst-case scenario, experts estimate it could kill 230,000 people. (VICE)A flurry of tremors in 2021 have some panicking over govt seismologists predicting a 70% chance of a eight- or 9-magnitude earthquake before 2048.The intensity would be comparable to the 2004 Indian Ocean one that triggered a tsunami and killed nearly a quarter of a million people. This one is projected to come from the Nankai Trough, a trench that runs from central Japan to the island Kyushu. It's a location that has seen quakes with around 100-150-year intervals. The last was 1946, killing 1,362 people.
