A FACT CHECK on the Coronavirus There is a reason why there has never been a vaccine for the common cold. While the cause is well known, the common cold is caused by Rhinovirus (66%) and Coronavirus (33%), creating a vaccine has never been attempted because these viruses are inherently unstable. Any vaccine would be obsolete by the time it is available. The reason is that this family of viruses is based on RNA instead of DNA. DNA is double-stranded and has some error correcting mechanism that makes replication almost perfect. RNA is single stranded and lacks this error correction function. This leads to changes or mutations which make for genetic variations which become new strands. Almost every mutation is to a less virulent form of the virus. However, since COVID-19 was cooked up in a Chinese lab and 'accidentally' leaked, we really don't know how successive mutations of this bug are going to act. Delta and Lambda variants are so different as to make these effectively new viruses, and no vaccine for one will necessarily be effective for the other. Microbiology and virology are well-studied fields, and there's a reason a large chunk of the scientific world is being silenced over this matter.
